We're Not Taxed So Heavily Now

According to the non-partisan Maryland Budget & Tax Policy Institute, state taxes in Maryland are low in relation to the income earned by its residents.

The proportion of Marylanders’ personal income being collected to pay for state and local government is lower than in 46 of the other 50 states.

All state and local government spending in Maryland represents a smaller investment of our collective resources (income) than in any other state in the US (or D.C.)

Are we supposed to be taxed on our ability to pay, not on what the government needs to provide services to the people. Hah!

The Governor made the same point in his speech Monday night. Maryland taxes are low compared to income, we're the richest state in the nation but spend less on state and local government as a percentage of income, etc.

Watch out for percentages.

Bill Gates makes a heck of a lot more money than me and I'm sure he spends a lot more on meals. But I bet the percentage of income he spends on meals is less than my percentage.

Again, like Brian said. I distrust people who simply say I'm not paying enough taxes -- the question is why does the government want more. Is it going to be used for something worthwhile.

If I make more, I want to decide how the money is used that I earned.

I don't think any case had been made that the State has to spend more money. For what? Tell us what you want the money for.
